Welcome to Brad's online memory archives.

Minor and Masks

Yesterday in church, we sang a hymn that was a fast minor. I love fast minor. When we sang the hymn, I got a little emotional. It was nice, because this time of year I feel kind of tired and burned out, and it seems like the only kinds of emotions I feel are frustration or annoyance. Thank you, fast minor hymn!

For the memory archive, I will make a note that yesterday was the first Sunday that masks were not required. Everyone else took their masks off only when they were seated, but I went without one the whole time because I’m vaccinated. The topic is controversial, so I didn’t talk about it with anyone. I’ll be curious to see what I think about it when I read this a year or five years from now.

Let’s hear it for hymns that make you feel all tight in the chest and throat! I’m just kidding – I dislike feelings, and when a hymn like that comes along I get all quiet and try to just concentrate on the notes, not the words.

It was our first time without masks, too. Our first hymn was “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee”. Perfect.
