Bloom Bonanza

The orchids in my bathroom just keep blooming and blooming. All of them are on their second bloom spikes.

But wait! The orchid on the far left, the doritaenopsis is blooming AGAIN!

This is it’s third bloom since I got it last April. Outstanding! I think this bathroom window must be the perfect environment for orchids.

Burying Bulbs

I got home a little earlier than usual, and was inspired to do something in the garden. I’ve been artificially chilling some tulip bulbs in my refrigerator since November. They should be chilled long enough, so I potted them.

This should be good timing, because it’s about to rain a lot, and that will really soak them in. Plus, the rain is bringing cool temperatures, so that will help the tulips not sprout so quickly. The slower they grow, the more roots they develop, and the stronger they’ll be.

Not that it really matters… these tulips were doomed from the moment they were accidentally sent to me. Tulips that grow in a warm climate like this don’t have a chance. These bulbs will bloom, and then I’ll dig them up and put them in the compost bin.

Plant Pleasures

Saturday is my day to do nothing work-related. Yay!

Yesterday I went to my favorite garden center, and they had a variety of dieffenbachia I had never seen, called “Reflector”. It has dark green velvety-looking leaves, with bright green speckles on it. I was spell-bound. It was only $11. I got it. Yay!

This is the first dieffenbachia I’ve ever owned. I’m almost 54 years old, and I’ve never owned a dieffenbachia. Weird.

Anyway, when I got home, I was feeling all garden-y, so I watched some tutorials on what to do with roses in this area during the winter. Apparently, in January, you’re supposed to cut them down to sticks. This sort of makes them pretend like they’re dormant, and then when “spring” comes in February (or whenever spring comes here – I don’t know because last year was weird), the roses burst into new growth and are covered with flowers.

That sounded awesome, so I cut my roses.

Today is a big grading day. Prayers would be appreciated.

Something

I had the day off of school yesterday. I seem to have such little time at home – this was the perfect opportunity to do a Project. Would I paint my bedroom? Or maybe re-paint the living room? I could organize my closet – I started that a long time ago, and never quite finished. Maybe I could unpack a few more boxes in the garage.

I didn’t do any of that. Ugh. I used to be better at this stuff. It’s frustrating.

But I did get some good rest yesterday. I so often underestimate the value of rest. And I did do one thing… I mowed the lawn. Not only did this make my yard look better, it was some physical activity. Good job, Brad!

Soft Food and Plant Pots

My dentist said I should eat soft foods for the next week, so when I went to my usual breakfast diner and ordered my usual breakfast, I skipped the bacon and hash browns, which are both kind of crunchy.

Later in the day, I went to a Mexican restaurant. My current favorite dish is tamales. I wasn’t disappointed. And it was soft 🙂

I went to a few shops yesterday. One of them was a Homegoods store. They have spring stuff out already, and that includes plant pots. Yay! I love pots!

I found some I liked. And they were so cheap!

And then I found myself in the neighborhood of another Homegoods store. They had the same pots, but even larger. But they weren’t as cheap. Ugh. Should I get them? I really liked them, but it was kind of a chunk of money.

Then I remembered… I had some Christmas cash from my mom. Yay! Thanks for the new pots, Mom!

The second ones are so big! I love them! Check out the comparison with my foot for scale:
